No one really wants to tell you what is going on and
everyone in the office gives you an excuse. Lawyers are busy and here is
what could be going on.
Lawyers have high aspirations to help others.
Your lawyer could be avoiding telling you the
unpleasant truth. He/She may avoid you until they can figure a way to solve a
problem in your case. This may take lots of research and they will call when
they have a strategy, or the problem solved.
Your lawyer is working on a high-profile case.
You are not your lawyer’s only client, and your
business alone will not pay your lawyer’s bills. Efficient clients who
know how to get to the point and move on are more likely to get a return call.
Lawyers meet crucial deadlines.
The law has statutes of limitations and if they are
missed it could be a grave mistake in the case. They spend hours researching
and preparing each case.
They have lots of meetings.
Meetings with clients, interviewing witnesses, taking
depositions, and new clients. Lawyers are not just sitting around talking like we
think they are.
There is nothing new happening.
Many cases have periods of intense activity and then
little to no activity. If interrogatories are sent to the opposing
party it takes about a month for answers. When discovery is done you are just waiting
for trial and it can take months to get in front of a judge. If there is
nothing to tell you, there is no reason to talk to you.
You ask the same questions over and over.
You don’t like the answers you received and no matter
how many times something is explained to you, you ask the same question or change
up the question. You hope the answer will change into something you want to
hear. You are wasting your lawyers time and they can’t help you face
reality
